100T upset & eliminate mousesports, IEM Katowice playoffs set

100 Thieves have eliminated mousesports in a shocking turn of events. The second-best team in the world according to the HLTV rankings will be watching the rest of the event from home as 100T have booked their spot in the Spodek.

The series went all three maps and the third was everything a fan of Counter-Strike would hope for. It was mousesports, however, that gained the early map advantage after taking down the Australian side on Inferno before being defeated 16-8 on Dust2 as Justin “jks” Savage’s side bounced back to force the third.

Nuke would go the distance with 100T pulling away in the end 16-14 and leave fans with their jaws dropped. Aaron “AZR” Ward would continue his streak of solid performances, finishing with a +12 kill-to-death differential although it was jks who led the team in average damage per round at 80.5.

With that elimination, the playoffs are set for IEM Katowice. Thanks to wins in their deciders, Astralis and G2 will be waiting in the semifinals.

fnatic will be battling against 100 Thieves in the first quarterfinal tomorrow, February 28th while Liquid will go up against Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev’s Natus Vincere. Astralis will face the winner of the latter while G2 will face the victor of the former.

It’s important to note that none of these matches will be played in front of a live audience as ESL recently announced that spectators will not be allowed due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak.
