fnatic take two OT maps in quarterfinal win over 100T, will play G2 in semis
It couldn’t have been a tighter 2-0 series as fnatic took down 100 Thieves in the IEM Katowice quarterfinals. Facing off to decide who moves into a semifinal match against G2, both maps went into overtime.
Both teams had a star player in the series with Justin “jks” Savage putting up a +21 kill-to-death differential alongside 90.4 average damage per round while Freddy “KRIMZ” Johansson netted a +28 record and 85.5 ADR.
On map number one, Inferno, 100 Thieves picked up the pistol before losing the follow-up, giving fnatic a good hold on the half. 100T would sprinkle in round wins to be down 10-5 moving on to the CT side. The teams would trade streaks early on but then a big six-round streak from 100T would tie things up at 15-15 and send the map into. The Aussie’s wouldn’t be able to carry on that momentum though, falling 19-16 in OT.
Mirage would be 100T’s turn to hold a halftime lead, returning the favor by losing the pistol but picking up the following three rounds to take the early advantage. Both teams would net 5 and 6 rounds from that point forward ending in a 9-6 half favoring 100T. Aaron “AZR” Ward’s side would hit 15 first but a three-round streak by fnatic would send the map into OT. Once again it seemed 100T were out of steam as fnatic only gave up one round in the extra rounds to secure a 19-16 victory and eliminated their opponents.
