Legends of Runeterra reveals huge changes to in-game economy

Legends of Runeterra has been in open beta for six weeks now, and Riot Games has been working non-stop to improve the game. After looking at how the in-game economy functions, Riot took some time to revamp the store and to enhance the rewards players earn. Starting with the 0.9.3 patch, players will see more XP, wildcards, and a reworked Vault system.

          Legends of Runeterra Vault changes

To facilitate a better, faster-evolving meta, Riot Games will give players more control in how they progress in their collection. Starting on March 31, players will gain unlimited and improved Vault rewards.

          • Level 2+ guaranteed Expedition Token (lowered from a level 10 reward).
          • Level 5+ guaranteed 1 random Champion.
          • Level 10+ replaces the 1 random Champion with a Champion Wildcard.
          • Level 13+ unlimited capsules, with at least three Rares and two Common.

The unlimited capsules also have the opportunity to be upgraded to an Epic or Champion capsule if you are lucky enough.

To unlock more levels of the Vault, Riot Games will also change how they award XP in Legends of Runeterra. PVP matches for Normal games will give at least 200 XP, while Ranked games will give at least 100. Playing against an AI will always provide at least 50 XP from now on.

The other major change coming to Legends of Runeterra is in Expeditions. Players will no longer be locked to a limited number of expeditions and will be able to play as much as they want. Entry for this mode has been reduced from 3000 Shards to 2000, and from 300 coins to 200. This change also comes with an adjustment in rewards. Players are no longer guaranteed a random champion; instead, this reward has been moved to the Vault.

The best way to get Wildcards

Another great change coming to Legends of Runeterra lies in how players acquire cards. Players no longer have a limit on the number of wildcards they can purchase. The in-game store will no longer have limited supplies that need to restock weekly, either. The option to purchase cards with Coins has also been introduced in the Collection tab. The cost of a card in coins is equivalent to the cost of its wildcard.

Thanks to some of these changes, like those to the champion wildcards, new decks will not take as long to build. If a deck suddenly becomes dominant, players can build whatever they need to play it. Alternatively, if someone wants to build an entirely new deck in a region they might not have leveled up well, they can purchase as much of the deck as they need.

          Future improvements coming soon?

Riot Games also discussed bringing XP boosts to region progression in later updates. Certain levels will increase the amount of XP for a limited time. Players will be able to clear early levels quickly and get those rewards faster. Riot also teased that the second set of cards and a whole new region will be coming later this year. It did not provide a release date, though, or even a window on when to expect it.

The 0.9.3 patch will be available with these updates on March 31. How do you feel about the changes? Do you think it will help players who spend money in-game or those who don’t more?
