VALORANT may not allow stretched resolutions according to a game dev
It looks like Riot Games will not be allowing the use of stretched resolutions upon release if we’re to take hints from one of the game’s developers as gospel.
While advocating for their game and its plans to deliver 128-tick server, an infrastructure built to combat peeker’s advantage, lag, and cheaters, it also seems they’re planning to not allow stretched resolutions.
In a post from Trevor “Classick” Romleski, a Senior Game Designer with Riot, he states that “if you’re going to use 4:3, I would recommend NOT stretching if you’re practicing for Valorant.”
He prefaced that by saying to use whatever you’re comfortable with, meaning play 4:3 if you’d like, but don’t expect it to fit the whole screen the way you’re used to if you’re coming from CS:GO for instance.
It may not be the absolute law for the future of Valorant, however as he does go on to say that he knows “this will be a topic of discussion, and it will be a later conversation I’d like to have with you all.”
Fortnite is another game that has come forth with rules preventing players from utilizing certain settings in a competitive environment, especially on LAN at events.
This implementation shouldn’t be all that surprising, however, as Riot has been stating their plans to make the game as consistent as possible and have already confirmed all agents will have the same hitboxes.
