WeSave! Charity Play donations will go towards COVID-19 vaccine development and medical supplies for hospitals

WePlay! Esports announced the charity organization that will receive the WeSave! Charity Play prize pool and all donation funds gathered through the one week Dota 2 marathon. The entire money collected will be split evenly between CEPI and GlobalGiving.

CEPI

In coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as other partners, Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) is currently working on developing vaccines against the coronavirus and aims to advance COVID-19 vaccine candidates into clinical testing. CEPI was launched at Davos (Switzerland) to develop vaccines and stop future epidemics. It is supported by the authorities of Norway, Germany, Japan, Canada, Australia, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Wellcome Trust foundation, and other charity organizations.

Dr Richard Hatchett, CEPI CEO:

“CEPI is grateful to WePlay! Esports and its dedicated gaming community for supporting our vital vaccine development efforts. COVID-19 has shaken the foundations of the world. It is affecting us all. The only way that we’re going to beat this virus is if we pull together as a global community. CEPI was set up as a vehicle for public sector and private sector partners, like WePlay! Esports, to pool their resources to spur the rapid development of vaccines against emerging infectious threats. I’m pleased to welcome WePlay! Esports as a partner in CEPI’s historic fight against COVID-19.”

Oleg Krot, WePlay! Esports CEO and Managing Partner:

“We never asked ourselves whether we would join the fight against the coronavirus or not — a tragedy of such magnitude can be overcome only by a united effort. On one hand, the help must be provided here, and now, on the other, we need not only to deal with the results by helping those who are most vulnerable but also fight the cause of the pandemic — the virus itself and minimize its ways to spread across the globe.”

GlobalGiving

GlobalGiving is a crowdfunding community connecting nonprofits, donors, and companies in nearly every country. The organization partners with Hilton, Microsoft, Nike, Facebook, Ford, Cummins, Discovery, Google, and other companies to implement corporate social responsibility and philanthropy programs.

The GlobalGiving Coronavirus Relief Fund was created to help and protect those who are the most vulnerable. The fund sends doctors and nurses to where they are needed the most; provides hospitals with masks, ventilators, and other lifesaving medical supplies; and delivers essential items to struggling families.

Ingrid Embree, Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships at GlobalGiving:

“GlobalGiving is pleased to partner with WePlay! Esports to raise critical funds for people who are especially vulnerable to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is an unprecedented time in modern history that will require the best of humanity to overcome. The WePlay! Esports livestream for the GlobalGiving Coronavirus Relief Fund is showing the world exactly what that looks like, and our community is so grateful for your generosity during this challenging time. It will take a collective effort from every industry and every individual to persevere against this global threat.”
