Assassin's Creed Origins represented a departure for the series. Coming after the likes of Syndicate, Unity, Rogue, and Black Flag, Ubisoft had decided to take a break following all these releases, believing players were fatigued with the series, and that it needed reinvention. Skipping a year, Origins launched as the tenth entry in the series on PS4 and Xbox One at the end of October 2017. But the delay helped as Origins took Assassin's Creed down a new path.
Many players adore Assassin's Creed Origins — and rightly so. Origins simplified the parkour and climbing, and emphasised action more, but it was the wonderfully realised Egyptian setting, and the story arc that found a charismatic lead in Bayek that revitalised the formula. Origins walked so that the follow-ups in the series – Odyssey and Valhalla – could run, and now in 2022 it looks like Bayek might be getting an additional boost as a patch looks to update the game.
Scooped by PlayStationSize, a Twitter account that frequently unearths information from the PlayStation Store, it spotted an Update 1.60 in the database for Assassin's Creed Origins. The patch notes mentions adding a "Franchise Menu" and also it looks like a higher framerate will be unlocked when the game is running on PlayStation 5. The update looks set to go live next week.
Previously, Ubisoft updated the Ancient Greece-set Odyssey with a 60fps option for players on Xbox Series X/S and PS5, but its predecessor hasn't seen a similar update as of yet. But this looks to change with the new patch although the "Franchise Menu" is less clear. Maybe this will give players the option to buy the sequels to Origins all the more easily once they install the patch for the game?
Although the patch notes was spotted on the PlayStation Store and looks to be exclusive to PS5 owners, Assassin's Creed Origins is also heading to Xbox Game Pass next month. Although it's not yet been confirmed, if Origins is getting the 60fps option for PS5, then we can be pretty confident that the same option will feature for Xbox Series owners as they access Origins on Game Pass.
Wandering the landscapes of Assassin's Creed Origins with Bayek and his trusty eagle Senu will be a treat in 4K and 60fps. It's an amazing entry in the series, so if you haven't yet played it it'll be a great time to do so.
