Atelier Ryza 2 Is Coming To PS5 With A Free Upgrade For PS4 Owners

During today’s Tokyo Game Show Livestream, publisher Koei Tecmo announced that the upcoming Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy would be releasing on PS5 this holiday season in Japan. A sequel to the first Ryza title and new addition in the popular (and ever-expanding) Atelier series, KT Games isn’t leaving PS4 fans in the dust. Anyone that purchases the PS4 version will be eligible to receive a free upgrade to the next-gen version whether they grab it physically or digitally.

Likely based on the PC build of the game -which is due to hit Steam in early 2021-, there’s not much known about what improvements will be available for PS5 players. You can probably expect 4K resolution output and possibly smoother performance. With Atelier Ryza 2 also heading to Switch, it’s unlikely that there will be any next-gen features like ray-tracing in this anime, cel-shaded title.

A new story trailer sets the stage for this latest adventure and it looks surprisingly dark. There’s a looming threat, some ancient evil, and lots of anime ladies. It’s most certainly a Koei Tecmo game. Developed by Gust Co. LTD, the quality on display here also makes me understand why this year’s Fairy Tail was pretty lackluster. Obviously more effort was being put into this.

Japanese gamers will be able to grab Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy on December 3, 2020, for PS4, PS5, and Switch. A PC port will head to Steam in early 2021 and will be followed by a release in the United States and Europe.
