Bloodborne: Every Hunter Tool (& Where To Find Them)

Hunter Tools go a long way in Yharnam. Bloodborne is a difficult game, one most players won’t be able to get through by relying on Trick Weapons alone. In Demon’s Souls & Dark Souls, players could make use of Magic Spells, Miracles, or Pyromancy alongside their traditional weaponry, but these secondary techniques don’t exist in Bloodborne: at least as is.

To make up for the lack of Dark Souls’ spell system, Bloodborne introduces Hunter Tools: items that consume bullets to fulfill magical purposes. Hunter Tools are a player’s main way of getting creative in combat with nearly a dozen options to choose from – all of which hidden throughout Bloodborne.

A Call Beyond

A Cell Beyond is one of the strongest Hunter Tools in Bloodborne. When used, A Call Beyond fires several homing rays which target enemies and do a considerable amount of damage. As a result, the Hunter Tool has a high Arcane minimum and consumes a lot of bullets.

  • Arcane: 40
  • Scaling: S
  • Bullets: 7

With such high scaling, A Call Beyond is a must-have for any Arcane builds. To find the Hunter Tool, head to the Lumenflower Garden in Cathedral Ward. From the Celestial Emmisary’s boss room, break the giant window by the Lamp and A Call Beyond will be on the right.

Accursed Brew

FromSoftware consistently knocks it out of the park when it comes to DLC and The Old Hunters might be their best expansion yet, adding numerous new items to Bloodborne: one of the most useful being the Accursed Brew. When used, players throw the Accursed Brew like a Molotov Cocktail, unleashing a miasma of damage wherever it falls.

  • Arcane: 30
  • Scaling: S
  • Bullets: 2

The Accursed Brew can be found in the Fishing Hamlet after defeating Lady Maria of the Clocktown. If players have the Milkweed Rune equipped (finish Saint Adeline’s questline), the very first NPC in the Hamlet will offer up the Accursed Brew when spoken to.

Augur Of Ebrietas

The Augur of Ebrietas is a deceptively useful Hunter Tool considering its minimum stat requirement. Augur of Ebrietas fires powerful tentacles out of the user’s arms, inducing knockback on enemies and creating the perfect opening for a combo.

  • Arcane: 18
  • Scaling: S
  • Bullets: 1

The Augur of Ebrietas can be found on the first floor of the Lecture Building in a locked room. To find the key to the room, simply head to the unlocked lecture room and it’ll be on a dead lecturer inside. The Augur of Ebrietas will be inside a chest in the locked room, surrounded by several Slime Scholars.

Beast Roar

Beast Roar is a non-combative item designed to keep enemies away from Hunters. When used, Beast Roar emits a shockwave that knocks back anything in the vicinity – perfect when being ganged up on. The Hunter Tool doesn’t do any damage and as a result lacks stat scaling.

  • Arcane: 15
  • Bullets: 2

The Beast Roar can be found in the Forbidden Woods. Right before the village entrance, explore the left portion of the region up the will. Beast Roar can be found in a broken down cottage situated past uncaged rapid dogs.

Blacksky Eye

The Blacksky Eye is another Hunter Tool from The Old Hunters DLC. When used, the Blacksky Eye fires a Meteor in the direction of wherever the player is facing, dealing damage on contact. With a low Bullet cost of 1, the Blacksky Eye has the potential to be especially deadly.

  • Arcane: 16
  • Scaling: S
  • Bullets: 1

The Blacksky Eye is found in the DLC’s Research Hall on the locked balcony. To get the Balcony Key, players need to either give Adeline two sets of Brain Fluid or kill her to loot the key off her corpse. The balcony is on the first floor of the Research Hall.

Choir Bell

The Choir Bell is an extremely useful supportive Hunter Tool. When rung, the Choir Bell heals the player, removes any status debuffs (excepting Frenzy), and even restores Health to any summoned Hunters (NPC or otherwise).

  • Arcane: 15
  • Scaling: S
  • Bullets: 7

The Choir Bell can be found at Mergo’s Loft after Micolash has been defeated. Use the Iron Door Key (found in Micolash’s boss room) to head underneath the loft. The Choir Bell will be in a chest across the bridge, but be alert for Frenzy.

Empty Phantasm Shell

The Empty Phantasm Shell is particularly useful for low Arcane builds, augmenting Trick Weapons with a flat increase in Arcane damage for a full minute.

  • Arcane: 15
  • Bullets: 3

If used intelligently, Hunters can focus on other stats while still putting Arcane to good use. The Empty Phantasm Shell can be found on the top floor of Byrgenwerth Mansion.

Executioner’s Gloves

When used, the Executioner’s Gloves fire out spirits which launch out at whatever plates are targeting. The Executioner’s Gloves are useful for staggering enemies and slowing down faster foes.

  • Arcane: 20
  • Scaling: S
  • Bullets: 3

The Executioner’s Gloves are found inside of the Cainhurst Castle Library. Go through the open window in the library, head on down, and cut back into the library to find the Executioner’s Gloves in a chest.

Madaras Whistle

Unlike other Hunter Tools in Bloodborne, Madaras Whistle scales off of Bloodtinge and not Arcane. When used, Madaras Whistle spawns a snake underneath Hunters which then lunges up for a bite. This can be useful for killing enemies, but also does damage to the player if not dodged.

  • Bloodtinge: 18
  • Scaling: S
  • Bullets: 4

Madaras Whistle can be obtained by joining The League and maxing out your Covenant rank. Once done, Valtr will leave and a hostile NPC will spawn who drops Madaras Whistle on death.

Messenger’s Gift

Messenger’s Gift is a defensive Hunter Tool that transforms players into Messengers. So long as Hunters aren’t seen transforming, enemies will completely ignore the player when transformed.

  • Arcane: 10
  • Bullets: 1

Messenger’s Gift can be found in the Nightmare Frontier Swamp. Tread carefully while hunting here to avoid both Poison and Frenzy damage.

Old Hunter Bone

The Old Hunter Bone is another defensive Hunter Tool. When used, Old Hunter Bones buff a player’s dodge, making it so you teleport when avoiding damage. This is especially useful in PvP.

  • Arcane: 15
  • Bullets: 4

The Old Hunter Bone can be found in the Abandoned Old Workshop connected to the elevator in Oedon Chapel. Instead of entering the main building, head to the right and drop down to a lower platform. Use the walkway to drop down to the Abandoned Old Workshop.

Tiny Tonitrus

The Tiny Tonitrus is an incredibly powerful Hunter Tool that fires out lightning in front of Hunters. Tiny Tonitrus also scales extremely well with Arcane, making it one of the best Hunter Tools from Arcane builds.

  • Arcane: 25
  • Scaling: S
  • Bullets: 6

Tiny Tonitrus is found in Yahar’gul Chapel. Up the stairs by the Lamp is an area littered with Graveyard Hags. Down the left wall is a ledge that leads into the room where Tiny Tonitrus is stationed.
