Bandai Namco have announced a Twitch-exclusive Pac-Man game that lets you make your own mazes and play co-op.
Pac-Man, easily one of the most iconic video game characters of all time, is now 40 years old, with a long legacy of games stretching back to the 1980s.
Naturally, you’d expect Bandai Namco to have some new game planned to tie-in with the celebrations. But what new ideas could it possibly come up with that will make the yellow, ghost-munching hero appealing to a new, modern audience while still retaining the classic formula?
Surprisingly, the answer is to let everyone else try and make one. In a similar vein to Nintendo’s Super Mario Maker, Bandai Namco, in collaboration with Amazon Games, is working on Pac-Man Live Studio, which will come with a custom tool that lets players create their own Pac-Man mazes.
Pac-Man Live Studio will include the original arcade game too, but rather than release on consoles or mobile devices, it will instead be available on a new Pac-Man Twitch channel that anyone can access for free.
Not only that, but up to four players can team up and work together to achieve a cumulative high score, while also competing for individual scores.
Users will be able to share their custom-made mazes with other players and can vote on the best ones to further promote them and get even more people playing.
