Before the end of the pre-show sizzle reel for The Game Awards 2020, Playwing gave us a look at the somewhat generically titled Century: Age of Ashes. Essentially a multiplayer version of Panzer Dragoon, it honestly looks really neat. I’m not sure exactly how an on-rails multiplayer game will work, but I’m probably limiting my understanding of the title by comparing it to something else.
The goal for Century is a simple one. As the game’s artistic director, Pascal Barret, put it, “Our desire with Century: Age of Ashes is to finally offer fantasy fans an action game starring dragons.” Mission accomplished, I’d say. “From the initial beat of wings when taking off to the roar of victory at the end of a match, Century is an absolute rush for dragon fans and multiplayer gamers,” he continued.
Century will feature three unique classes for players to choose from, which include Windguard, Marauder, and Phantom. They will fit the typical multiplayer class archetypes of Defense, Offense, and Stealth respectively. You’ll be able to do battle across three different game modes, such as Carnage (TDM), Survival (6v6v6), and Raid (CTF).
As for when you’ll be able to get your hands on Century, it will launch into Steam early access in February 2021. You can currently sign up for beta access to ensure that you’ll get in before everyone else. When the game does come out, it will be a free-to-play multiplayer experience, so you won’t need to pony up just to beta test the project.
