Like many games before it, Demon Slayer Kimetsu: The Hinokami Chronicles caters to its anime roots and rambunctious fan base with engaging gameplay and beautifully rendered cutscenes. However, unlike its predecessors, this game takes a step back from storytelling and only provides you with the main story beats as you take down demons left and right. The rest of the story, and its much-needed context, are delivered in collectibles called Memory Fragments.

Memory Fragments are rewarded and/or collected throughout numerous parts of your journey and will include scenes and dialogue from the anime itself. These scenes are usually narrated and help alleviate frustration from the constant cycle of slaying demons. There are 53 available Memory Fragments in all.

Prologue

There are eight Memory Fragments associated with the game’s Prologue. The first four fragments are awarded once you complete the tutorial battle against Sabito. These are:

  • Memory Fragment #1 “An Ordinary Morning”
  • Memory Fragment #2 “A Horrific Discovery”
  • Memory Fragment #3 “The Final Task”
  • Memory Fragment #4 “A Strange Pair”

The next four fragments are associated with the Prologue but obtained at different points of your journey.

  • Memory Fragment #5 “Demon Slayer Swordsman” is rewarded once you complete Chapter 1.
  • Memory Fragment #6 “Mr. Saburo” is an overworld collectible in Chapter 2. Once you spawn into the town, you’ll need to go to the northeastern section after learning how to track demons by their scent. Upon reaching that general area, turn right and go past the building that has 150 Kimetsu points. An old man will stand in your way; go past him and follow the path – make sure to parkour at the appropriate sections to keep moving forward. Once you go through a small gap, the Memory Fragment will be waiting for you to pick it up.
  • Memory Fragments #7 “Desperate Struggle” and #8 “A Bond Between Siblings” will be awarded to you once you finish Chapter 6.

Chapter 1 – Final Selection

There are five Memory Fragments associated with Chapter 1.

  • Memory Fragment #9 “A Cave Scene” appears to the left of you after speaking with Urokodaki. The next three will be available inside Mt. Fujikasane.
  • After your first battle against a demon and learning how to track demons’ scents, you’ll be greeted with a forked path. Taking the path on the right will lead you to the location of Memory Fragment #10 “Demon in the Temple”.
  • Memory Fragment #11 “Training Begins” and Memory Fragment #12 “Meeting the Trainer” are located right before the boss’ location, at the waterfall area. The first one can be found at the end of the road on the right of the map. The latter fragment is located at the end of the path that stems from the rock entrance.
  • Memory Fragment #13 “A Demon Slayer of the Keio Period” and Memory Fragment #14 “Hold my Hand”, are rewarded to you upon completing Chapter 1.

Chapter 2 – The Swamp Demon

There are two Memory Fragments associated with Chapter 2.

  • The first one, Memory Fragment #15 “Events in Town”, is obtainable right from the start. Once you arrive in Northwest Town, simply take a few steps to the left and the fragment will be waiting for you.
  • The second fragment, Memory Fragment #16 “The Black Swamp”, is available on your path right after the cutscene with Kazumi ends.

Chapter 3 – Death Match in Asakusa

There are three fragments for Chapter 3.

  • Memory Fragment #17 “Unforgivable” is available after fighting your first poison demon. Turn right after the fight, go through the fake wall, and head towards the old man and his dog; slightly past him is the fragment.
  • Memory Fragment #18 “The Alleyway Massacre” and Memory Fragment #19 “The Assassins” will be given to you once you complete the chapter.

Chapter 4 – Echoing Drums

Like the previous chapter, Chapter 4 only has three fragments.

  • Memory Fragment #21 “Crushed Pride” and Memory Fragment #22 “A Kind, Gentle Sound” will be awarded once you complete the chapter.

Chapter 5 – Hinokami

Chapter 5 has seven fragments.

  • Memory Fragment #23 “Zenitsu and His Sparrow” is available right before the main objective while exploring as Zenitsu. Follow the path to the left of the fork and turn right before the objective, the fragment will be obtainable under a fallen tree.
  • Memory Fragment #24 “An Irritated Senior Apprentice” is available shortly after the main objective’s fight. It will be unlocked once you finish watching the cutscene of Zenitsu dealing with his poison.

  • Memory Fragment #25 “An Ideal Family”
  • Memory Fragment #26 “My Pretend Family”
  • Memory Fragment #27 “Murata’s Close Call”
  • Memory Fragment #28 “Something Important”

The final fragment, Memory Fragment #29 “The Insect Hashira” is available right after the introduction cutscene to Chapter 6, but it is still considered to be a fragment belonging to Chapter 5.

Chapter 8 – Mugen Train

Chapter 8 has seven fragments.

  • Memory Fragment #47 “Shining Souls” and Memory Fragment #48 “Clinging to a Dream” will be provided after watching the cutscene where Tanjiro wakes up and fends off Enmu’s demons.
