UPDATE: As confirmed by Epic Games earlier tonight, Fortnite downtime for update 17.50 has been scheduled for 9am BST on Tuesday, August 31.

However, it should be noted that Fortnite servers will start shutting down at 8:30am BST, meaning you will start to be booted from live games thirty minutes before maintenance begins.

More news on how long servers could be down for Fortnite update 17.50 can be found below.

ORIGINAL: The new Fortnite update is releasing today, and Epic Games has confirmed that servers are shutting down so that maintenance can be performed.

The next big Season 7 patch is called update 17.50, and the development team has teased a few things that could be included.

According to Epic Games, the next content update is coming from outer space, which could reference the return of a friendly face.

It’s rumoured Kevin the Cube will be returning at the tail end of Fortnite season 7, and the Cube’s comeback will be linked to the Fortnite chapter 3 storyline.

Long time Fortnite fans will recall the Cube was a major part of Fortnite chapter 1, featuring prominently in seasons 5 and 6.

Kevin stuck around for a long time and became an integral part of the game’s story but eventually was removed in explosive fashion.

And there’s a chance that Kevin could be part of the next Fortnite live event, which could be revealed as early as September 3.

Other rumours suggest we will get a new weapon before the end of Fortnite Season 7, and this would be a great time for it to make its debut, giving Epic the chance to sort any balancing issues before the new season starts.

The Fortnite server downtime scheduled for today has been set to start at 9am BST on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.

For gamers in the United States, this will mean maintenance starting at 04:00am EDT on the same day.

No one should be left waiting for the servers to come back as all platforms will return online at the same time.

It should be noted that gamers will start getting booted from matches thirty minutes before everything shuts down today.

A message from the Fortnite team reads: “17.50 comes from outer space on August 31! In preparation for the update, downtime will begin at approx. 04:00 AM ET (08:00 UTC). Matchmaking will be disabled approx. 30 minutes before.”

And while Epic Games has not provided the exact time servers will be back online, they have confirmed how long it could last.

From what has been estimated, maintenance could last for up to four hours, meaning things should be back online by 1pm BST.

More news, including official patch notes, are expected to be shared during today’s Fortnite maintenance.

And following that, gamers will get a big update later this week as part of the Fortnite Crew subscription service.

A message from Epic Games confirms: “So unstoppable that Midas made him his enforcer, The Burning Wolf bursts forth in the September 2021 Crew Pack. This Crew Pack goes live for active Fortnite Crew subscribers starting at approximately 8 PM ET on August 31.

“When will others from The First Shadows reveal themselves? The next two will make their grand entrance in October’s and November’s Crew Packs. As a November extra, subscribed players who’ve assembled all three of The First Shadows will receive a bonus Style for each.

“What else is in the September Crew Pack? A knight by origin, The Burning Wolf is experienced at striking by sword. With the Burning Fangs Back Bling, have swords at the ready, then unsheathe them as the dual-wield Burning Fangs Pickaxe.”
