The Opening Night Live livestream from Geoff Keighley is tonight and it’s expected to feature over 30 games and a number of new announcements.
Before the pandemic the Gamescom event in Cologne, Germany used to play host to hundreds of thousands of games fans in what was the closest anywhere in Europe got to an E3 style trade show.
Unlike E3, Gamescom was much easier, and cheaper, to get in to for ordinary fans and hopefully that’s what it’ll return to next year. For now though the focus is entirely online, with the Opening Night Live livestream hosted by Geoff Keighley.
Keighley also hosts and organises The Game Awards event in December and the Summer Game Fest during E3; Open Night Live works in a similar way, with new trailer and gameplay debuts interspersed with short interviews and musical sets.
Gamescom 2021 start times and how long it lasts
To watch Gamescom all you need to do is tune in via YouTube, Twitch, Facebook or Twitter. The video link above will kick in at 6.30pm BST for the pre-show but the livestream proper won’t begin until 7pm BST.
Although there’s no set schedule or end time, Keighley has said the livestream will last roughly two hours – so it’ll end sometime around 9pm BST.
Deep Silver has already teased a new Saints Row announcement, while Ubisoft is expected to focus on Far Cry 6. It’s unclear what Bandai Namco will show but it could be Elden Ring, the gameplay trailer of which Keighley helped to debut during the summer.
What exactly to expect from PlayStation is a mystery though, especially as they’ve had little to do with Gamescom in recent years and tend to make major announcements via their own events – their inclusion in the line-up may just be because of Death Stranding though, which they publish on consoles.
