Genshin Impact: 10 Things You Need To Know About Hu Tao

Genshin Impact recently surprised players by releasing Hu Tao, a pyro polearm user who is one of the most powerful five-stars to date. She runs the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor as the director, friend to Zhongli, and one of the most eccentric characters in the game. Her personality is extremely striking, and players who have done her story quest were caught off guard by her strange behavior.

As it turns out, though, there is a lot more to Hu Tao than just being the guardian of the afterlife. In fact. Hu Tao is more like the other vision users than most players realize.

10 Her Childhood Was Unique

Hu Tao wasn’t normal during any part of her life. When she was a child, she did strange things like reading when exercising. This would be a bit normal if the reading didn’t start at age 3. A few years later, she used to sneak out of school to take naps in coffins and arranged her first funeral at age 13.

It’s safe to say that she was anything but your typical Liyue little girl growing up.

9 She Doesn’t Get Along With Others

Hu Tao is a very hard person to hang around for the majority of Liyue. It’s safe to say that she outright creeps many of the adults in the town out. Between trying to offer them the Adventures Guild coupons and inquiring about the health of adults, she has ostracized herself.

However, she loves the reactions she gets from people and doesn’t seem to mind their negative reactions.

8 She is Horrible at Marketing

Hu Tao is not great at marketing, although the way she treats adventures does add a bit of black comedy to the game. Hu Tao has a unique outlook on her business, and thanks to that, she should share what she does with the world; she even has “buy one funeral get one funeral free” coupons.

As most players can probably guess, there isn’t anyone in Liyue trying to take her up on that offer.

7 She’s a Poet

Hu Tao actually has a pretty innocent talent. She loves to go off to the distant parts of Liyue and take in the view. While she is doing this, she will write poems. Hu Tao spends a lot of her time composing new poems and would likely be writing poetry as a job if not for her legacy.

Some of her poems are known across the land, and she has made friends thanks to this unique hobby.

6 Stone Lions Are Her Pets

Players may have noticed stone lions in front of the Ministry of Civil Affairs. These lions are actually Hu Tao’s pets. She used to come to visit the stone lions every day and even named them. Hu Tao sees Whiskers and Mittens as the best cats in Liyue; to her, no normal feline can compare.

She doesn’t seem to visit them much anymore, though, and told the guards that they were adults now.

5 She Kidnapped Qiqi

Hu Tao has gone farther than most players think with her want to bury Qiqi. In fact, Hu Tao has had poor Qiqi stuffed into a bag several times, only for Dr. Baizhu to stop the kidnapping in the nick of time.

Hu Tao has scarred Qiqi and is the one person the young girl hates. While Hu Tao now sees Qiqi as a friend, the feeling is not mutual and will likely never be.

4 She Created The Hilitune

Not only does Hu Tao sing the adorable Hilitune, but she was the one who originally created it. The tune is popular among the children of Liyue, although it doesn’t seem like they know exactly who it came from. The Hilitune is, without a doubt, a catchy poem that even ghosts sing.

Dusky Ming, in particular, has a love for the Hilitune, although it’s not likely she got it from Hu Tao.

3 She is Close With Xingqiu

Hu Tao has a pretty surprising friend circle given her line of work. Her best friend is Xingqiu, and the two often get together to exchange writing and talk about literature. They often hang out, and even Chongyun has been brought into their literary competitions as a judge.

Hu Tao also seems to read Xingqiu’s books, which isn’t surprising given the age she started reading.

2 She Loves Pranking Xiangling

Poor Xiangling just doesn’t do well when it comes to dealing with ghosts. Hu Tao knows about this and just can’t resist trying to scare the poor chef. In fact, one of Hu Tao’s favorite things to do is to make others uncomfortable, and Xiangling is considered an easy target.

It does seem like Xiangling does get a bit of revenge by serving Hu Tao dishes she won’t like, though.

1 She Loves Seafood

Hu Tao is the exact opposite of Zhongli, who is terrified of seafood. She loves to eat steamed fish and prawn dumplings. This is likely due to the fact that Liyue Harbor is a seaside town, and Hu Tao has a deep interest in tradition when she is actually being serious.

She does seem to hate stranger foods, though, as she is not a fan of slime.
