Itch.io launched a bundle raising money for abortion funds yesterday with a minimum price tag of $10. It includes 750 indie games as well as a collection of soundtracks, books, digital comics, and more. In only one hour, it surpassed its goal of $50,000.
It's running for another nine days with an all-new goal of $200,000 but it's already at $131,214 with 7,696 contributors (thanks, PC Gamer). "100 percent of the proceeds from this bundle will go to the National Network of Abortion Fund's Collective Power Fund, which moves money directly to abortion funds across 20 plus US states, with a particular focus on the South and Midwest (where it is often most difficult to get access to abortions," itch.io wrote.
While it's $10 to buy the bundle, you can also put forward more money for a larger donation or you can donate directly at donations4abortion.com. Itch.io launched this fundraising campaign in light of the US Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade, threatening access to abortions across the country.
The bundle is hosted by Caro Asercion, a game designer with plenty of their own work hosted on the site. It pools together 792 items from 604 creators, all standing in solidarity with NNAF. Buy in and you can get games like Catlateral Damage, a first-person house cat destruction simulator, Sewer Rave, a rat party game, Zombie Admin, a top-down twin-stick office shooter in a zombie apocalypse, and more.
This isn't the only way people in games are raising money for abortion funds and access, either, as Star Wars fans also chimed in, raising over $30,000 for the National Abortion Federation. This was done in less than 48 hours, calling on Star Wars fans to pool together in protest of the Supreme Court overturning Roe vs. Wade.
