Legacy of Kain is ripe for a return in the age of PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X
It's been over 20 years since Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain debuted on the PlayStation, and showed the world at large that gamers had an appetite for dark, brooding games teeming with vampiric lore, existential crises and bloody violence.
The PlayStation, at the time, was mostly home to colourful, family-friendly action games and platformers but Legacy of Kain, as a series, would prove a cult hit for all the right reasons.
The most widely acclaimed title of the series, Soul Reaver, sits at an impressive 91 on Metacritic (that's a higher rating than PSOne stablemates Final Fantasy VIII, Resident Evil 2 and Wipeout 3), and the other games in the series don't trail too far behind.
In an age where we're all cooing over the gothic majesty of the Castlevania anime on Netflix , and indulging in the action-RPG glory of the Soulsbourne games, it seems like the perfect time for Legacy of Kain to emerge from its crypt and stalk the charts once again.
Also, look at the intro below and tell me that isn't one of the single best videogame introductions of all time… imagine seeing that again in 4K, with that banging Sisters of Mercy-esque music remastered for Dolby Audio or something – it'd be a masterpiece.
