Monster Hunter Rise Reveals New "Hunting Helper," Escuregot

A bunch of new gameplay videos have been released for upcoming Monster Hunter Rise, one of which revealed a creature called Escuregot that can assist you during battle.

The animal is part of a group called Hunting Helpers – creatures that provide various buffs if you can capture one in the wild. Escurgot provides its tamer with a passive healing effect – a boon that will be incredibly beneficial while facing off against the game’s terrifying new monsters. The released clip is short, clocking in at only a few seconds, so there’s much we still don’t know about the slimy gastropod. Do all Escurgots provide the same healing effect? Do they leave our side after a short duration? Can we enhance our taming abilities? Can we eat them? Right now there are more questions than answers, but it’s an exciting development nonetheless.

We’re also likely to see more Hunting Helpers introduced in the coming months. It’s hard to imagine Capcom giving Escuregot a title as vague as Hunting Helpers if there weren’t a bunch of other useful creatures under the same umbrella. Right now nothing is official, but it’d be great to see animals that improve your attack speed, defensive abilities, or even ones that assist in combat like a pet.

For now, we’ll have to make do with the slimy– and cleverly named – Escuregot. (Get it? ES-CURE-GO?)

Capcom also recently showed off over seven minutes of Great Sword gameplay, giving us a glimpse of the devastatingly slow weapon in action. The new Wirebug – which operates much like a grappling hook – can be combined to deadly effect with the Great Sword, letting you easily move in for a few heavy blows before swinging away to safety. Fans of the series have to like all the recent footage that was released, although it certainly makes the five month wait a little harder to bear.

Monster Hunter Rise is scheduled to release for Nintendo Switch on March 26, 2021.
