- How To Escape The Laboratory
With Clover and Lotus at your side, you must successfully escape the Laboratory in Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors. Choosing Door 8 after completing the Kitchen will take you to this strange room, so we are going to help you get through it.
In this guide, we are going to go over how to escape the Laboratory, with step-by-step instructions. Like our other 999 guides, this Laboratory walkthrough will contain no spoilers, so you can safely read while avoiding any secrets about the mysterious Nonary Games. First, let's take a look at the layout of the Laboratory room.
The Laboratory is composed of two parts; an outer portion with equipment and an inner area where experiments are performed.
On the outer portion, you can find monitors, shelves, and cabinets, as well as a thin windowed wall on the back, allowing you to see through into the experiment area.
This experiment area has an exam table with a mannequin laying on it, as well as some pieces of medical equipment.
While trying to escape, you will be in the outer area with lockers. Prior to starting the puzzle, Clover gets trapped in the experiment area; you can only interact with her through the glass windows and the barred door.
How To Escape The Laboratory
Now that you know the layout of the Laboratory, it's time to escape!
From your starting position, turn until you see equipment with a shelf on the right-hand side. Inside, you will find a power cable that can be added to your inventory.
Turn to the left from here until you are now facing a wall of lockers with red and green lights. Next to this, you will see a monitor that doesn't have a power cable. Unfortunately, the monitor needs a cable with two prongs, which you don't have.
You cannot skip interacting with the computer; to get the two-pronged cable, you'll have to know that you need it first.
After confirming this, face the windows that look into the experiment area. As mentioned earlier, you will not actually be in here; instead, you instruct Clover on what to do as you stand on the other side of the window.
Interact with the piece of equipment directly above the mannequin, and Clover will tell you that it is connected with a two-pronged power cable. After some conversation, Clover will hand you a two-pronged plug. Combine this plug with the power cable in your inventory, and you will get a two-pronged power cable. Now you can head back to the monitor and turn it on.
Once plugged in, the screen will turn on. Another roadblock stands in your way because now you need a password for the monitor.
Lotus will use her epic computer skills to brute force attack the computer and break the cipher. This will also begin a long conversation with Lotus about the human brain.
Eventually, Lotus is will not be able to work any further, and the screen will display a three-by-three grid made of red and green squares.
The goal of this puzzle is to turn all the squares green. Clicking on a square will turn all adjacent squares to the opposite color. Below, you can find the squares that you need to click on in order to solve the puzzle.

A hint to this puzzle can be found inside the green lockers on the left-hand side of the locker wall. Here, you will find a bottle of ethanol that can be given to Clover. With the Ethanol in hand, Clover will write down a hint for the grid puzzle.
This step isn't necessary; you can solve the puzzle without ever finding the ethanol.
Upon completing the puzzle, the red lockers to your left will turn green and unlock. One locker will pop open, allowing you to grab the Earth Key and an activation key. The Earth Key will be saved for later and is not needed in the Laboratory, but the activation key will come in handy as you try to escape.
Once you have grabbed both keys, face the equipment in the corner. After inspecting the screen area, you will see a key opening that says OFF and ON.
Placing the key and turning it towards ON will cause the monitor to turn green.
Now, face the experiment area and interact with the large box on the wall above the mannequin. After a brief conversation, Clover will conclude that she doesn't know what to do.
Interact with the box again, and Lotus will prompt here to increase the voltage. Doing this causes the head of the mannequin to burst into flames.
The smoke in the room will cause the emergency system to activate, which in turn, opens the doors to the room, so you can escape. Now all you have to do is get Clover and then leave the room!
