Nintendo Partners With Brie Larson to Promote Animal Crossing

Nintendo has partnered with Brie Larson, aka Captain Marvel herself, to promote the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch.

Earlier today Ms. Larson posted an Instagram of herself sporting Tom Nook’s signature island getaway shirt, complete with a tropical leaf design. She can also be seen holding an Animal Crossing-themed Nintendo Switch. The image’s caption reads: “Already obsessed with #AnimalCrossing: New Horizons! I’ve missed Tom Nook so much! ? If you are looking for sweet ways to spend time at home, I highly recommend you grab your #NintendoSwitch and escape to your own island getaway? Now, who has iron nuggets they can give me? @nintendo”

Though the post is labeled as a paid advertisement with Nintendo, this is not the first time Brie has shared her love for video games and Animal Crossing. Back in January, she shared her excitement for the Animal Crossing-themed Switch on her Twitter, in a retweet sharing the first images of the Switch.

Larson also disclosed in an interview with PEOPLE, published today, that she’s been an Animal Crossing fan since the original game was released for the GameCube. In the interview, she described the game as something that was “so important to me and my sister,” explaining, “My mom set up a rule: whoever finished their homework got to play first. It was an amazing tool to get us to finish our homework.”

She also disclosed how was lucky she was to get an early copy of New Horizons: “I’ve been playing the game I think since Monday by myself and I’ve had nobody to be able to talk to about it. It’s been really sweet to have this special time with it to figure it out on my own.”

The Oscar winner also expressed the importance of a game like Animal Crossing during a time when everyone is so far apart from one another: “Given the circumstances, we can connect via the Internet and go to each other’s islands while we’re FaceTiming and communicate about this. It’s just sweet.”

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
