Plants Vs Zombies 3 Has Soft-Launched in the Philippines

Plants vs. Zombies 3 had been confirmed to be in development last year, with appropriate testing phases. Now, the game has apparently received a soft launch in select territories.

According to Destructoid, Plants vs. Zombies 3 has now been made available to players in the Philippines. The game is a free-to-play mobile title and can be downloaded onto select mobile devices, including the iPhone 6S or above, the Samsung Galaxy S6 or above, and other Android devices.

While the game has only received a soft launch in the Philippines for now, Plants vs. Zombies 3 developer PopCap has stated that the game will become available in other regions in the future. As it stands, there is no stated worldwide release date. However, PopCap wants to stick with its soft launch in the meantime so as to “grow the game into something really awesome.”

PopCap is aiming for a different approach to the series with Plants vs. Zombies 3, according to the developer. Rather than replace the first two Plants vs. Zombies games, PopCap is differentiating the third game by developing a faster combat system with more multiplayer gameplay in mind. Yet, the task is still to survive the attacks of zombies on the plant creatures in Plants vs. Zombies 3.

One core difference in gameplay this time around involves the sun production component from the original productions. Instead of using the sunflower unit for this purpose, there are now other methods of doing so. Further, the sunflower can be used for more purposes now.

As mentioned previously, multiplayer will be a larger focus this time around. Competitive modes such as Arena Mode will offer more social options in seeing who can most effectively fend off hordes of zombies.

As soft launches are becoming more and more common for purposes of refining the experience before a wide release, the move on PopCap’s part makes sense. Hopefully, the developer can polish the game up for its worldwide release once the reaction from those in the Philippines region is fully realized.

Currently, players can still stick with Plants vs. Zombies 1 or 2. However, the more action-focused Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville is available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC for those looking for a different kind of Plants vs. Zombies experience.
