PlatinumGames teases new mechs vs. monsters game, Project G.G.
PlatinumGames, the developer behind action games like Nier: Automata and Bayonetta, is working on a brand new original project. The developer released a teaser trailer for what it’s calling Project G.G., but it wasn’t ready to share an actual name.
The teaser starts off in a rain-slicked street with hundreds of people running away in a panic. Suddenly, a massive building collapses, letting us know that whatever the threat is here, it’s very big. The camera zooms in on a very good dog that isn’t shying away from the massive, unseen threat. A nearby building slowly starts to crumble just above the poor dog.
Just as it looks like the dog might be in trouble, a mysterious hero arrives and transforms into a giant mech. The camera pulls back to a wide view of the street and our new mech-clad hero rushes toward the dark shape of what can only be a giant monster. While that’s the ending of this teaser, it certainly seems to imply that PlatinumGames’ new project might have something to do with players taking control of mechs in order to take on giant creatures.
Project G.G. will be the first game that PlantinumGames has ever self-published. All of the developer’s previous games have been published through other companies, which director says Hideki Kamiya the studio is grateful for, in a letter announcing the new project. However, this gives the PlatinumGames the chance to control every part of their new IP for example whether or not there’s a sequel, or which consoles the game is released on.
The trailer also mentions that Project G.G. will be the third game in director Hideki Kamiya’s superhero trilogy. The two earlier games were Viewtiful Joe and Wonderful 101, which currently has a Kickstarter for a new remastered version, which Platinum will also self-publish on Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation 4.
For now there’s no information on when Project G.G. might actually be released, or when we might hear its real name, but PlatinumGames is sure to share more about its giant mechs versus giant monsters game in the future.
