While there was some backlash to the announcement of the free-to-play MOBA, Pokemon Unite has been a major success with developer TiMi Studios continung to update the game, which has a large playerbase on mobile and Nintendo Switch.
Recently, it added an all-new way to play the game, with Catch 'Em Battles. These new battles allow you the ability to catch and use the wild Pokemon you defeat while attempting to score against your rivals, but this new way to play is limited and will leave the game on June 26. But today, Unite teased a new 'mon that is heading to the game.
On its Twitter account, Pokemon Unite showed off new artwork, depicting a fiery swirl in the stadium. While fire dominates the scene, and the presumably hot wafts of air it produces, eagle-eyed observers spotted what looks like a stick in the centre of the frame. The caption lets us know that the new 'mon will be a Ranged Attacker. Putting the pieces together, a lot of observers are predicting that this new addition is none other than Delphox.
Delphox is a fire psychic type, and a fox of course, who was introduced in generation six in X/Y. It evolves from Braixen and is the final form of Fennekin. From X/Omega Ruby: "It gazes into the flame at the tip of its branch to achieve a focused state, which allows it to see into the future" and from Y/Alpha Sapphire: "Using psychic power, it generates a fiery vortex of 5,400 degrees Fahrenheit, incinerating foes swept into this whirl of flame".
While it is a stick, in the anime Delphox really does look like it could be wielding a wand to conjure up those hot flames. As ever, there were a range of opinions that greeted the teaser, with some very much looking forward to the (assumed) addition of Delphox, while others would prefer more gen 5 additions or more legendaries. There's just no pleasing folks!
But we should get confirmation pretty soon, while Unite fans can start thinking already about their battle plans.
