The PS4 box art for Immortals Fenyx Rising reveals a label highlighting games that can be upgraded to the PlayStation 5.
Ubisoft’s revamped Gods & Monsters game, now called Immortal Fenyx Rising, was shown off yesterday during the company’s Ubisoft Forward presentation.
The box art for the PlayStation 4 version was also shown and it’s revealed a new detail that you can expect to see adorning other upcoming PlayStation 4 titles.
Along the bottom of the box is a small blue label that reads ‘PS5 Upgrade Available.’ This is meant to inform consumers that the game can be upgraded to the PlayStation 5 version at no additional cost.
It’s certainly a lot subtler and easier on the eyes than the Xbox equivalent, which has been criticised for taking up too much space on the box art.
As a reminder, unlike Microsoft, Sony isn’t offering any sort of upgrade system of its own. Whether a PlayStation 4 game can be upgraded to its PlayStation 5 equivalent is solely dependent on that game’s developer and/or publisher.
Sony has already confirmed that none of its first party titles for PlayStation 5 will release on PlayStation 4 as well, and given how focused Sony is on moving on to the next generation, it’s unlikely that any of its first party PlayStation 4 games will receive free PlayStation 5 upgrades.
However, we might see some of its bigger PlayStation 4 games get updated re-releases for PlayStation 5, such as The Last Of Us Part 2, although nothing’s been announced so far.
The PlayStation 5 is scheduled to release in time for Christmas this year.
Immortals Fenyx Rising will release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Stadia on 3 December.
