PS5 Showcase Will Take Place On Wednesday

The long wait for more PS5 news is almost over, as Sony has announced that a PS5 Showcase event is due to take place on Wednesday.

Sony has been teasing fans with new information about the PS5 for months now, and we still don’t know the price or release date for the system, outside of a loose “2020 holiday season” launch window. Microsoft seems to have forced Sony’s hand, when it revealed the price and release dates for the Xbox Series S/X over the past week, giving fans an indication of how much the next generation of systems is going to cost.

There have been rumors that Sony will announce the price and release date of the PS5 circulating over the past few days, and it seems that the company is finally ready to reveal the details of the system’s launch. The official PlayStation Twitter account has announced that a PS5 Showcase event will take place on September 16 at 1 pm Pacific Time.

Sony hasn’t revealed exactly what will be shown at the event, but a price and a solid release date seem a given, considering that Microsoft has taken the initiative with the Xbox Series S/X. It’s also possible that we’ll learn more about the launch line-up of the system, which is still relatively bare.

The wait for more information about the next generation of systems has been tortuous over the past few months, as Microsoft and Sony have been engaged in a game of chicken, with each waiting for the other to reveal their price. It’s thought that the wait was so that one company could undercut the other, as Sony did with the PS4 when the price of the Xbox One was announced. Now that we know the price of the Xbox Series S/X, we can see just how much of a loss Sony is willing to take on consoles in order to ensure that people buy them this holiday season.

The PS5 is due to be released during the 2020 holiday season. The PS5 Showcase will take place on September 16 at 1 pm Pacific Time.
