Splatoon 2 Gets New Demo Alongside Seven-Day Switch Online Trial

Out of the blue, Nintendo has announced that it will be releasing a new Splatoon 2 demo very soon. Coming on April 29, 2020, this “Special Demo 2020” will feature Turf War, Ranked Battle, and Salmon Run modes for players to try out. If you don’t have an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription, you won’t need to worry. The demo is coinciding with a seven-day trial of the service.

This has to be a teaser for things to come, right? It’s so random that Nintendo would offer a demo nearly three years after the release of Splatoon 2. Then again, the company did recently put ARMS up for free for a week, so maybe this is some weird kind of promotion.

If you like what you play, Splatoon 2 will be 30% off during this trial period. That’s a pretty decent deal, though Nintendo doesn’t mention if the Octo Expansion DLC will also be discounted. Even without that, the main game offers a fairly robust single-player component that is well worth playing.

I still can’t help but think there is something else Splatoon related right around the corner. The wait between Splatoon 1 and 2 was shorter than this, so we’re bound to be hearing something about Splatoon 3. Does it help if I mention that the “Mayo Vs. Ketchup Splatfest” is making a return? That’s pretty substantial.
