Star Ocean And Valkyrie Profile Creator Tri-Ace Hiring For Next-Gen RPGs

It seems like a new next-gen project is on the horizon for Tri-Ace. The Japanese developer, known for the Star Ocean series and Valkyrie Profile, is currently looking to hire 3D VFX artists to work on an action RPG aimed at next-gen consoles.

In a post from the developer, which was translated on Twitter by Gematsu, the Japanese game maker shared that it is searching for top-notch 3D VFX artists to help with a new project. In the post, they noted that they want to hire individuals that will work with them to “create future action RPGs with the high-quality and exhilarating presentation of next-gen consoles”. While no further information was offered on what exactly Tri-Ace is planning, they did hint that they may be developing their own engine for the upcoming mystery RPG; “We don’t wait for commercial engines to support new platforms like PS5, we develop [the engine] ourselves.”

Tri-Ace is perhaps best known for the Star Ocean series which is comprised of eight original titles released over two decades from 1996 to 2016. The latest entry in the series, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, was released for the PlayStation 4 back in 2016. The popular gaming series also spawned an anime and a manga series. While no new titles have been released recently, a remake of the first in the series, Star Ocean First Departure R, was recently ported to the Nintendo Switch.

Beyond the Star Ocean series, Tri-Ace is also known for the Valkyrie Profile series. These RPG games were inspired heavily by Norse Mythology and lauded for their inventive gameplay. The series contains four titles with the latest release, Valkyrie Anatomia: The Origin, releasing on mobile in 2019. While not as popular as the Star Ocean series, the Valkyrie games were still moderate successes for the developer.

For now, Tri-Ace is leaving fans guessing on what this new next-gen RPG will be. While this could possibly be another entry in the Star Ocean series, something new and unexpected seems more likely.
