With wallets at the ready, the big Steam Summer Sale will be getting underway later today, June 24.

Poised to offer deep discounts on games you’ll probably never get around to playing, gamers will soon have full access.

As usual, the Steam Summer Sale countdown is expected to end at around 6pm BST and suffer from a few hiccups.

Steam servers are expected to go down as thousands of customers hit the site all at the same time.

The good news is that this outage is only expected to last a short period and will be followed by full access to the Steam Summer Sale.

Each year usually contains a theme and it appears that the 2021 edition might have been revealed early.

According to the latest reports, the Steam Summer Sale theme for 2021 will be around murder mystery.

Mystery Badges have started to be spotted in the wild, which could indicate the kind of animated stickers and chat effects being planned.

Then again, this could be part of a much larger theme, meaning fans will have to wait until everything goes live today.

The 2020 Steam Summer Sale had a road trip theme, with Valve telling gamers at the time:

Buy games, earn points, then make a quick stop at the all-new, here-to-stay Points Shop, where you’re sure to find the perfect souvenir for your summer adventures on Steam.

“The shop features dozens of new animated stickers and chat effects, profile backgrounds, mini-profile backgrounds, avatars, avatar frames, and more.

“Plus, discover hundreds of profile backgrounds and emoticons associated with your favourite games, now available in exchange for Steam Points.”

While the Summer Sale 2021 theme could be something connected to mysteries, the Steam Database – the place where the new sale dates have been leaked – provided a sneak peek at what might be coming later today.

This included references to new community profile themes, such as Candy, Cherry, Steam Green, Blue Screen, Summer 2021.

How this would fit with a mystery theme is hard to say, so it will be worth keeping an eye for the latest news on the popular sales event.

WHEN IS THE STEAM SUMMER SALE?

The Steam Summer Sale is one of Valve’s biggest events of the year and has a release date set for June 24.

We know about these new dates due to leaked information, meaning they haven’t been announced yet by Valve.

However, as the company is never one to provide early news on such events, this sounds like the best guide we will have for the time being.

The Steam Summer Sale 2020 kicked off in June around the 25th, making this year’s date look like a good shout.

Last year’s event was mainly focused on big discounts but it also contained ways of unlocking other items, which is guaranteed to happen this year too.

Gamers can expect the latest news to drop regarding the Steam Summer Sale at around 6pm BST.
