Team Garou Strategy Guide
With B.Jenet not being present in a KOF title since 2008 and Gato being absent from the series since 2005, it was pretty surprising to see them come back in full force as DLC characters alongside the fan-favorite Rock Howard in The King of Fighters 15 to form Team Garou.
However, this weird team combination works quite well and is absurdly fun to play as in the game's many modes. Furthermore, Team Garou is a relatively beginner-friendly team, with a few minor exceptions that shouldn't be too much of an issue for anyone playing the game since launch. Still, this team brings the heat and has tons of potential, which is all one could really ask for in KOF 15.
The Basics
If you're relatively new to the genre or series of The King of Fighters, some of its terminologies can be a bit complicated to take in, especially if you're trying to learn the ins and outs of the many systems and mechanics of the game. So, to try and help ease newcomers into the later sections of this guide, we will cover the most common and important terms found in the game below!
However, if you are a seasoned veteran of the genre and series, you will more than likely be able to skip ahead to the main sections of the guide. But, as touched on above, we strongly urge all beginners to give it a quick glance before moving forward to the rest of the guide.

Team Garou Strategy Guide
Team Garou covers most playstyles found within The King of Fighters 15 and is amongst the most beginner-friendly squads in the entire game. Despite being the first DLC Team to hit the roster, nothing feels unfair or too safe with Team Garou, but they are still a force to be reckoned with in the right hands.
The All-Rounder and fan-favorite Rock Howard is a solid choice for anyone coming to the game for the first time. Another excellent character for newcomers is Gato, an exceptionally fun and exhilarating Brawler that will have the opposition struggling to find ways to approach him. However, the only tough character to get used to on Team Garou is the Rushdown fighter B.Jenet. While she isn't too complex, she will take some time to get comfortable with, making her less beginner-friendly than her teammates. Still, as a squad, Team Garou is among the best and should be checked out if you're a fan of the game!
Rock Howard Strategy Guide
In terms of popularity, Rock Howard sits comfortably with Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui, which he backs up with a solid fighting style and impossibly fun gameplay. While he doesn't excel in any one category, Rock Howard is a slightly unique All-Rounder and possesses many surprising attacks as a result.
Due to being an All-Rounder, Rock Howard doesn't rely too heavily on his meter and can sit comfortably in your rotation as the opener or middle entrant and perform as you'd expect. For his strategy, Rock excels greatly at closing the gap and applying pressure but can play a bit defensively and bait his opponent into making ill-informed decisions and punish them for it. Furthermore, Rock can keep his opposition at bay and force them into playing more passively or into an uncomfortable playstyle.
On the surface, Rock Howard seems like your average, run-of-the-mill All-Rounder but is a much more complex character than that when you start picking him apart. He's flashy but packs a punch and is one of the more accessible entrants in the game for this reason.
B.Jenet Strategy Guide
Though she's technically a Rushdown fighter, B.Jenet has a handful of options that allow her to stay relevant at range, letting her set up her devastating close-range routes. However, getting in her opponent's face is still the name of her game, making it unwise to lean heavily on her ranged attacks.
B.Jenet's potential is on full display when she's in close-range encounters and demonstrates that by having a ton of combo routes and insane specials that spell the end of her opponent in an instant. Her primary strategy is to apply tons of pressure on her opponent, giving them no time to breathe or think about what to do next and capitalizing on any mistake or hesitation they make. That being said, B.Jenet's kit truly doesn't come alive until she has some meter to work with, so we strongly urge sticking her into the middle of the rotation or using her as the team's anchor.
When all is said and done, B.Jenet might be the most fun to experiment with from the bunch but will take a bit of time to get a handle on. As a result, she isn't necessarily what we'd call beginner-friendly, but she's much too exhilarating to pass on completely. We recommend giving her a fair shake before ruling that she's not for you!
Gato Strategy Guide
Gato may very well be the most surprising character of the three and possesses a unique kit that puts him in a mix of being a Brawler and a light Grappler. Still, even with his odd playstyle, Gato remains beginner-friendly and offers a fun and rewarding playstyle. He may not "wow" anyone, but he will get the job done.
The only downside to Gato's playstyle is he relies very heavily on the meter, making him thrive most as the anchor, but he can barely pull off being the middle man if you're confident in your starter. And in terms of strategy, Gato is all about getting down and dirty with his opponent and can win most close-range situations. However, at any type of range, Gato will struggle quite significantly and will be hard to recommend to anyone who isn't a fan of the more slow methodical fighters.
Range issues aside, Gato is extremely fun to play, and his kit has a surprising level of depth to it. He may not be as flashy as Rock or B.Jenet, but he doesn't have to be. He's a powerhouse that can punish his opponents with his honed skills and strength, and he's also very beginner-friendly, which is always an excellent addition.
