The Last of Us’ live-action debut is shaping up with an all-star cast bringing to life the rich palette of downtrodden characters from the game. Next up in the news is Marlene with Merle Dandridge reprising the role.
Dandridge is best known for her work as Alyx Vance in Half-Life 2, but she also appeared in Uncharted 4 as Evelyn. She voiced Marlene in the games, so she’ll be making a leap from the PlayStation to the silver screen with her role, and it’s a fairly big role at that.
Marlene is the head of the Fireflies, the resistance that’s battling against the oppressive thumb of the military occupation that’s stomping down on the remnants and survivors in the midst of the fungal apocalypse.
She’ll be joining Pedro Pascal’s Joel and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie, meaning that Dandridge will have met the actors behind the iconic duo for both the games and show. Meanwhile, Gabriel Luna is appearing as Tommy, Joel’s brother.
The show is being helmed by Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin and The Last of Us’ Neil Druckmann. Chernobyl won several awards and landed itself an impressive 96% on Rotten Tomatoes while The Last of Us also bagged a wealth of awards, the second game being the most awarded in the industry, with a 95 on Metacritic.
Dandridge was a part of that legacy but, despite her foot in gaming, she is already familiar with HBO Max. In fact, she currently appears in The Flight Attendant.
Meanwhile, you can play The Last of Us 2 with 60fps and better haptic feedback thanks to its latest PlayStation 5 free upgrade. On the other hand, there are rumors abound of a remake of the original PS3 title of which the launch could coincide with the show, although as of now, nothing has been confirmed by Sony itself.
