Get An Iconic Horror Game As Part Of The Epic Free Games Promo

The Epic Games Store has been giving away free PC games every week–no strings attached–since the storefront launched in late 2018. As of now, we know the program will run until at least the end of 2020. It’s pretty straightforward; every Thursday at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET, Epic offers one, two, or occasionally even three games completely free of charge. To claim the games, you simply need to register for a free Epic account and enable two-factor authentication, which Epic recently added as a requirement to help users bolster their account security. After registering and claiming your games, they are yours to keep in your digital library forever.

This week’s free games at Epic

From now until May 7 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET, Epic users can snag two free games: Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Crashlands.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a first-person survival horror game starring Daniel, a man who awakens in a Prussian castle in 1839 with no memories besides his own name. Throughout the adventure, he explores the castle and slowly pieces together the mystery of who he is and why his memory is gone. Along the way, you solve object manipulation puzzles and flee from monsters that creep in the shadows. Though it released way back in 2010, it’s still worth a look if you haven’t played it yet. The game earned an 8.5/10 in GameSpot’s Amnesia: The Dark Descent review.

Crashlands is cartoonish action-RPG set on an alien planet. You play as galactic trucker Flux Dabes, who is unfortunately stranded on said planet and soon becomes part of a high stakes adventure where the fate of the world is on the line. With a heavy emphasis on loot and crafting, Crashlands is an engrossing isometric action-RPG with fast-paced combat and humorous writing. While GameSpot hasn’t reviewed Crashlands, it currently holds a “Very Positive” user score on Steam.

Next week’s free game at Epic

Every time a new freebie goes live, Epic reveals what users have to look forward to for next week. Starting May 7, PC users can claim Death Coming.

In Death Coming, you play as the Reaper. Naturally, your goal in this non-linear puzzle game is to bring death–but within the confines of the “Free Will Cause.” Played from an isometric perspective, you must manipulate the environment rather than killing humans directly. Throughout the game, you have to watch people in their natural habitats, devising the best strategies for efficiently completing your mission, all the while avoiding the Minions of Light, who help preserve human life. Though Death Coming sounds quite dark, it has a humorous tone to keep things somewhat light despite the subject matter. It currently holds a “Very Positive” user average on Steam.
